Family Matters
Our aims
Family Matters was established as a registered charity
(No. 1019861) in November 1990.
Our aims are
- to provide immediate intervention on behalf of children, adolescents
and adults who are suffering the harrowing aftermath of recent
or historical abuse
- to restore personal esteem, replace dysfunctional behaviour,
correct mistaken beliefs about self and others, repair self-destructive
behaviour, encourage positive mental attitudes and enable the
victims of sexual abuse to live worthwhile and fulfilling lives
- to prevent future dysfunctional family dynamics which may
lead to abusive behaviour by positively enhancing good parenting
skills and preventing further abuse
- to avoid in- or out-patient psychiatric care and prevent relapse
- to prevent scapegoating and rejection
- to put a stop to the repetitive cycle of abuse
- to promote the education of healthy sexual attitudes and improve
inter-personal and relationship skills
- to support non-abusing family members and the partners of
survivors
- to provide appropriate training for professional workers
- to raise awareness of child protection
- to alleviate the pressure on Statutory Services.
