Family Matters

Our Work

Family Matters is there to listen. People can turn to us.

More than 70% of the people who do turn to us have never disclosed their abuse to anyone before.

But we do more than listen.

Our counselling, group therapy, outreach support and helpline services are resourced to respond to the needs of victims.

Our network of qualified counsellors and volunteers is there to support and assist children and adolescents (between the ages of 8 and 18) and all adult survivors, together with non-abusing family members and partners of childhood abuse victims. Our work extends to couple counselling - for relationships in which either or both partners has been sexually abused as a child.

We support or counsel over twelve hundred children, adolescents and adults each year. People come to us direct, through our helpline, or are referred to us by Statutory Services, private bodies and voluntary groups.

Our helpline covers the whole of the United Kingdom. Counselling, outreach support and group therapy are offered throughout London, Kent and parts of Essex from sixteen venues utilised on a sessional basis and from our Crisis Centre in Gravesend.
