Aid to children damaged by Chernobyl

Following the Chernobyl disaster, there has been an abnormally high number of children born in Ukraine with birth defects. Many children's internal organs are affected and they need surgery on their heart, lungs or liver in order to survive. This is putting great strain on the countries health care system.

Working with the Order of St Lazarus, we regularly send sutures, to the main paediatric hospital in Ukraine. These special needles and thread, used to sew up the incisions made during surgery, are essential for such operations. In the last three and a half years, 1,850 operations have been carried out in this Kiev hospital using our sutures.
