Uganda Society for Disabled Children
Mission Statement
USDC is a development agency established in 1985 to improve the quality of life of
children and young people with disabilities in Uganda.
- Our mission is to provide the resources and opportunities for children with
disabilities to achieve their potential and lead fulfilling lives.
- We believe that each child is unique in terms of ability, circumstances and
needs. The focus of our activities is therefore on the individual child living at
home with his or her parents and other family members, who are the principal
carers. Children are assisted irrespective of their disability, gender, religion or
culture.
- Our work follows a community based approach, using local and appropriate
resources. We transfer rehabilitation skills and knowledge on disability to
children with disabilities, their families and other community members.
Promoting public awareness of disability issues and challenging negative
attitudes are also key elements of our work.
- We collaborate with the Government of Uganda and other partners to
strengthen service provision through professional, technical and material
support.
- We acknowledge that achieving our mission depends on having a team of
dedicated and professional employees who maintain the highest standards of
honesty and the highest levels of commitment.
- We aim to ensure that the impact of our work is sustained in the long term.
USDC receives financial support from a number of sources, including the British and
other governments, European agencies, the trust and corporate sectors and
individuals. We intend to consolidate and diversify this funding base so that our
activities can benefit as many children, and ultimately adults, as require assistance.
